History
Construction of Horsham St Faith as a permanent RAF base began in 1939. It had a grass airfield, 5 "C type" hangars and brick built accommodation. The RAF operated Blenheims and Mosquitos from here until it was closed to be upgraded with concrete runways. It then became the home of the 458th Bomb Group of the 2nd Air Division from March 1944 until July 1945. RAF Fighter Command then took it over and operated Mosquitos, Hornets, Meteors and Hunters until the early 60s when it became Norwich Airport. One of the early operators using the airport was Air Anglia, a forerunner of Air UK. |
