North Pickenham

The 492nd (Hard Luck) Bomb Group was the first to be based at Station143, North Pickenham form April 1944 to August 1944, it was disbanded because of appalling losses. It's replacement, the 491st (The Ringmasters), was one of the most successful was based here August 1944 to May 1945. During the Cold War 220(SM) Squadron RAF was operational here from July 1959 to July 1963 with Thor Intermediate Range Ballistic Missiles. Now covered in turkey sheds.
