History
The Royal Flying Corps had an 80 acre airfield at Marham from 1916 to 1919. Under its control were landing grounds at Coldham, Earsham, Freethorpe, Gooderstone Warren, Mousehold Heath, Saxthorpe, Sedgeford, Sporle, Tottenhill and West Rudham. (See Combating the Zeppelin) As part of the inter-war expansion programme the site was again brought into use, reopening as a bomber station in 1937. At the moment its future looks assured, therefore we may live to see the 100th anniversary of the first flight from Marham. |
