History
The RAF operated Wellingtons and Lancasters from East Wretham from 1940 until 1943 when it was handed over to the Americans. The 359th Fighter Group initially operated Thunderbolts but later converted to Mustangs. The airfield feel into disuse at the end of the war. Parts of the accomadation are still used by the army whilst exercising on the STANTA battleground. Their are a number of Czech graves in the local churchyard. In 40/42 the unit was occupied by a Czech squadron and OCU. |
