History
A grass airfield which opened in 1940 and closed at the end of the war, it's operations were closely associated with nearby Bircham Newton. Little remains today, a clue to it's location is Sunderland Farm; as the locals called it Sunderland airfield. David Jacklin believes that it's greatest contribution to the war effort was in the area of meteorological reconnaissance, hence the title of his book -"Up in all Weather". |
